ISU Enhances International Academic Collaboration with Teikyo University
ISU is one of the few comprehensive universities in Taiwan that have a
College of Medicine. Its campus hosts nearly 1,500 international students from
over 40 countries, fostering a vibrant, multicultural environment akin to a
global village. Additionally, ISU partners with nearly 375 universities
worldwide, offering students diverse study-abroad opportunities throughout
their four-year journey to expand their global perspectives and networks. For
instance, students from the Department of Applied Japanese in the International
College have successfully enrolled in the “2+2” dual-degree program with Teikyo
University in Japan and have already begun their studies abroad. Likewise,
faculty and students from the Department of Medical Science and Biotechnology
in the College of Medical Science and Technology have traveled to Teikyo
University’s Utsunomiya Campus for academic exchanges in life sciences.
To strengthen its collaboration with ISU further, Teikyo University sent
a delegation to visit the campus. The delegation included Masakazu Ohara,
Assistant Director of the International Exchange Division; Professor Shohei
Sakuda, Director of the Graduate School of Biosciences; and Professor Masayuki
Kajitani, Chair of the Department of Biosciences. During their visit, they
toured the specialized teaching facilities and equipment at the Medical Campus,
gaining a deep appreciation for ISU’s commitment to educational excellence and
investment in advanced resources. The delegation highly commended the research
achievements of faculty members from the Department of Medical Science and
Biotechnology and engaged in discussions on future academic collaborations.
Both universities look forward to strengthening ties through more frequent
exchanges, providing ISU students with valuable opportunities to broaden their
global perspectives and immerse themselves in diverse cultural experiences.
Wei-Lun Wang, a senior student from the Department of Medical Science and
Biotechnology, shared his experience visiting Teikyo University’s Utsunomiya
Campus, where he conducted experiments under the guidance of Professors Shohei
Sakuda and Masayuki Kajitani. He was deeply impressed by the dynamic interaction
between Japanese professors and students. Beyond acquiring specialized
knowledge, he also gained firsthand exposure to different educational
approaches and cultural traditions, making this exchange an invaluable and
enriching experience. Meanwhile, Hsu-Chen Chen, a first-year master’s student
in the same department, participated in a hands-on experiment on rice straw
extraction led by an Egyptian student. Communicating in both Japanese and
English, he found the experience uniquely challenging, as it combined language
learning with practical scientific training.
Dr. Wen-Chuan Hsieh from the Department of Medical Science and
Biotechnology highlighted that ISU’s exchange programs with Teikyo University
not only strengthen students’ professional knowledge and language skills but
also offer them an immersive cultural experience. ISU has built partnerships
with nearly 375 universities worldwide, including more than 20 sister schools
in Japan. Currently, students have participated in internships and study abroad
programs in countries such as Germany, the United Kingdom, Japan, and Malaysia.
Committed to fostering international exchange opportunities, ISU actively
encourages students to explore the world, broaden their global perspectives,
and transform these invaluable experiences into future achievements, equipping
them with the skills needed to excel in a competitive international landscape.
